
Beijing, May 25, 2026(Kamran Raja): Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif held a warm and highly productive meeting with President Xi Jinping in Beijing today, reaffirming the enduring strength of the Pakistan-China All-Weather Strategic Cooperative Partnership and charting a renewed course for future-oriented bilateral cooperation. The meeting coincided with the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Pakistan and China.
Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar, Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, along with senior federal ministers and officials, accompanied the Prime Minister during the meeting.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed profound gratitude to President Xi Jinping and the Chinese leadership for the warm hospitality extended to the Pakistani delegation. He underscored that Pakistan-China friendship remained the cornerstone of Pakistan’s foreign policy and a source of regional stability amid evolving global and regional dynamics.
The Prime Minister reaffirmed Pakistan’s unwavering support for China’s core interests, including the One China Principle, and appreciated China’s steadfast support for Pakistan’s sovereignty, territorial integrity, economic development and national progress.
Recalling his successful visit to Hangzhou, the Prime Minister praised President Xi Jinping’s visionary leadership and acknowledged his transformative role in the development of Zhejiang Province during his tenure there. He commended President Xi for steering China’s remarkable rise as a leading global power through bold reforms, innovation and strategic vision.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also appreciated China’s constructive role in promoting regional peace and stability and lauded President Xi Jinping’s four-point proposal for regional peace, describing it as a timely and widely welcomed initiative.
The two leaders discussed expanding cooperation under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) and agreed to accelerate high-quality development projects in key sectors including industrialization, infrastructure, science and technology, agriculture, digital economy and clean energy.
The Prime Minister emphasized the importance of aligning China’s 15th Five-Year Plan with Pakistan’s “Uraan Pakistan” vision to unlock new opportunities for economic growth, technological advancement and regional connectivity.
Highlighting growing collaboration in emerging sectors, the Prime Minister welcomed the inclusion of Pakistani astronauts in China’s space station programme, terming it a reflection of the expanding scope of bilateral cooperation.
President Xi Jinping reaffirmed that China places Pakistan at a priority position in its neighborhood diplomacy and described the friendship between the two countries as an “unbreakable traditional bond” founded on mutual trust, respect and unwavering support.
Both leaders agreed to carry forward the historic legacy of Pakistan-China friendship and transform the 75th anniversary of diplomatic ties into a new era of strategic coordination, practical cooperation and shared prosperity for the peoples of both countries.
