Islamabad, 6 November, 2026 (Kamran Raja): Qatar, Kuwait, Bahrain and Jordan have strongly condemned an alleged attempt by Yemen’s Iran-backed Houthi group to target Saudi Arabia’s Madinah region with a ballistic missile, reaffirming their full solidarity with Riyadh. The Saudi-led coalition said its air defence systems intercepted and destroyed the missile while also shooting down a Houthi drone over the kingdom’s Eastern Province. In a statement, Qatar’s Foreign Ministry described the attempted attack as a blatant provocation against Muslims, a reckless disregard for civilian lives, a violation of Saudi Arabia’s sovereignty and a breach of international law. It reaffirmed Qatar’s full support for Saudi Arabia and all legitimate measures taken to protect its sovereignty, security, territorial integrity and national interests. Kuwait’s Foreign Ministry also strongly rejected the continued attacks, describing them as a flagrant violation of Saudi sovereignty, international law and international humanitarian law. It reiterated Kuwait’s unwavering support for the kingdom and its right to take necessary measures to safeguard its security and protect citizens and residents. Bahrain’s Foreign Ministry said targeting the Madinah region threatened civilians and visitors to the Prophet’s Mosque and constituted an assault on the sanctity of Islamic holy sites, offending Muslims worldwide. The ministry urged the UN Security Council to take firm and deterrent measures to stop repeated Houthi attacks, prevent strikes against religious sites and civilian facilities, and hold those responsible and their supporters accountable. Jordan also condemned the reported missile attack, describing it as a provocation against Muslims, a violation of Saudi Arabia’s sovereignty and a threat to its security and stability, as well as a breach of international law and the UN Charter. Jordan’s Foreign Ministry reaffirmed the country’s full solidarity with Saudi Arabia and support for all measures taken to protect its sovereignty, stability and the safety of its citizens and residents. Meanwhile, the Houthis rejected claims that they had targeted Madinah. Yemen has been engulfed in civil war since the Houthis seized the capital, Sanaa, and other areas in September 2014. A Saudi-led Arab coalition has supported the internationally recognised Yemeni government since March 2015. Fighting has intensified in recent weeks, with the Houthis reportedly launching repeated missile and drone attacks against Saudi territory.
