India Beat New Zealand by Four Runs in Rain-Affected Second ODI

Islamabad, 7 November, 2026 (Ghufran): India secured a thrilling four-run victory over New Zealand in a rain-affected second One-Day International (ODI) on Saturday, taking a 2-0 lead in the five-match series. Chasing a revised target after New Zealand were bowled out for 134 in 41 overs, India were 113 for seven in 26 overs when rain brought an end to the contest in Wellington. The visitors were four runs ahead of the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern (DLS) par score of 109, securing victory with KL Rahul unbeaten on 26 and Auqib Nabi on one. The match had been reduced to 47 overs per side due to wet weather. India now need just one more win to clinch the series, with the third ODI scheduled to take place in Hamilton on Tuesday. The visitors had also won the rain-affected opening match in Auckland on Wednesday by five wickets after dismissing New Zealand for 185. India’s chase in Wellington got off to a difficult start as New Zealand fast bowler Jacob Duffy removed captain Shubman Gill for a first-ball duck and Virat Kohli for seven, finishing with three wickets for 35 runs. Kyle Jamieson also claimed three wickets for 35 runs, including the crucial dismissal of top-scorer Shreyas Iyer, who made 30, leaving India struggling at 86 for five. Earlier, New Zealand’s innings was anchored by Daryl Mitchell, who scored 55, while captain Mitchell Santner contributed 31. However, the remaining batters failed to build substantial partnerships, with none scoring more than 11 runs against India’s disciplined pace attack and challenging batting conditions. Gurnoor Brar delivered his best ODI performance, claiming four wickets for 30 runs. His decisive double strike in the 20th over saw him dismiss Tom Latham and Glenn Phillips, leaving New Zealand struggling at 53 for five. Auqib Nabi also made an impressive contribution, claiming his first two international wickets by dismissing openers Will Young and Tim Seifert to finish with figures of two for 31.
