Islamabad, July 27, 2026(News Desk): Federal Minister for Petroleum Ali Pervaiz Malik has constituted a high-level committee to examine and resolve the issues raised by the Oil Tanker Contractors Association (OTCA), reaffirming the Government’s commitment to ensuring uninterrupted fuel supplies and addressing stakeholders’ legitimate concerns through consultation.
The decision was announced during a meeting between the Minister and an OTCA delegation led by its President, Abidullah Afridi. The meeting concluded on a positive note, with both sides agreeing to work collaboratively to resolve the challenges facing the oil tanker industry.
The committee, to be chaired by the Special Secretary Petroleum, has been tasked with reviewing the association’s concerns and submitting its recommendations within one week. Its members will include the Director General (Oil), representatives of the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA), the Oil Tanker Contractors Association (OTCA), and the Secretary General of the Oil Companies Advisory Council (OCAC).
During the meeting, the OTCA delegation highlighted several key issues, including a reduction in the quota allocated to the White Oil Pipeline, the introduction of a transparent mechanism for awarding freight contracts by Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs), linking the freight formula with the Consumer Price Index (CPI), and the immediate discontinuation of commercial loading.
The Petroleum Minister directed OGRA to work closely with all stakeholders to address the genuine concerns of oil tanker contractors. He also instructed Oil Marketing Companies to submit their written policies governing the award of freight contracts to ensure transparency and eliminate any discriminatory practices. In addition, the Minister directed OGRA to strengthen the tracking of oil tankers and ensure that dealers’ vehicles are not used in primary transportation operations.
Ali Pervaiz Malik emphasized that maintaining uninterrupted fuel supplies and facilitating the public remain the Government’s highest priorities. He stressed that all stakeholders must work together in the national interest, particularly during challenging times, and assured the delegation that all legitimate concerns would receive due consideration and be resolved through constructive dialogue.
The OTCA delegation appreciated the Minister’s constructive approach and welcomed the formation of the committee, expressing confidence that the outstanding issues would be resolved through continued cooperation and mutual consultation.
