Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif Reaffirms Pakistan’s Commitment to Regional Peace in Meeting with Iranian Interior Minister

ISLAMABAD, July 21, 2026(Kamran Raja): Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif on Monday reaffirmed Pakistan’s unwavering commitment to regional peace, stability and constructive dialogue during a meeting with the Interior Minister of the Islamic Republic of Iran, H.E. Mr. Eskandar Momeni, who called on him at the Prime Minister House during his official visit to Pakistan.

The meeting was attended by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar, Federal Minister for Interior and Narcotics Control Syed Mohsin Raza Naqvi, Federal Minister for Information Attaullah Tarar, Adviser to the Prime Minister Dr. Syed Tauqir Shah, Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry, and other senior government officials.

Welcoming the Iranian Interior Minister and his delegation, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif recalled his recent visit to Tehran to attend the funeral ceremony of the late Supreme Leader Ayatollah Sayyid Ali Khamenei. He conveyed his respectful regards and best wishes to the Supreme Leader, His Eminence Sayyid Mojtaba Hosseini Khamenei, and President Dr. Masoud Pezeshkian.

The Prime Minister expressed deep concern over the recent escalation in the Gulf region, stressing the importance of restraint and dialogue to prevent further instability. He reiterated Pakistan’s readiness to continue playing the role of an honest and sincere mediator and facilitator in support of lasting regional peace and stability.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif underscored Pakistan’s commitment to strengthening its longstanding brotherly relations with Iran and enhancing bilateral cooperation across areas of mutual interest.

Interior Minister Eskandar Momeni thanked the Prime Minister for the warm welcome extended to him and his delegation and conveyed the greetings and best wishes of the Iranian leadership. He said his visit, accompanied by a high-level delegation, reflected Iran’s commitment to further deepening bilateral cooperation with Pakistan.

The Iranian Interior Minister expressed appreciation for the efforts of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar and Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir in facilitating dialogue that resulted in the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding. He also thanked the Prime Minister for his visit to Tehran to attend the funeral ceremony of the late Supreme Leader Ayatollah Sayyid Ali Khamenei.

The meeting concluded with both sides reaffirming their resolve to further strengthen Pakistan-Iran relations and continue close coordination on regional peace, security and issues of mutual interest.
