To combat the growing problem of gender-based violence, Balochistan Police has launched a campaign against gender-based violence. The program is supported by the U.S. Embassy’s Drug Enforcement and Law Enforcement Agency and is administered under the technical direction of the United Nations Narcotic Drugs Agency. To raise awareness, Balochistan Police, in collaboration with the US Embassy Counter Narcotics and Law Enforcement Department and UNODC, organized a flag workshop at Sardar Bahadur Khan Women’s University in Quetta on Wednesday, April 24, 2024 and successfully completed the campaign.
The workshop brought together experts from law enforcement, academia and civil society to appeal to a large group of young and passionate schoolgirls and inspire them to commit to social change against gender-based violence in Belgium.
The event was chaired by Ms. Raheela Hameed Durani, Minister of Education, Government of Balochistan, and emphasized the importance of taking action against gender-based violence and noted that universities play an important role in empowering young women. . The focus is to empower young people, especially adolescent girls, to raise awareness and address gender issues to combat the causes of gender-based violence in their daily lives and encourage them to pursue a career as a female police officer. Sardar Bahadur Khan Women’s University and Girls Postgraduate College in Quetta, Balochistan Police and UNODC also organized two awareness sessions called
on 27 and 28 March 2024. The session was successful. academics and gender experts will encourage and inspire female students to come forward and support survivors of gender-based violence through compassion and respect. The aim was to empower young women to combat the causes of gender-based violence by learning about cultural and social biases. Distribution through social media and print materials helped deliver the important message to a wider audience.
The campaign also emphasized the importance of providing immediate assistance to victims of gender-based violence and services at the Women and Children Center in Quetta. Ms. Pari Gul Tareen, Quetta SP, said: “Gender-based violence thrives on silence and ignorance. Our aim is to create information and environment that will help survivors of gender-based violence to report violence against authorities and obtain the necessary assistance.
