Islamabad, 11 August, 2026 (Nosheen): Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Raza Naqvi arrived in Tehran on Tuesday for an official visit as Pakistan continues its diplomatic efforts to facilitate dialogue between Iran and the United States amid tensions surrounding the Strait of Hormuz. During his visit, Naqvi is expected to meet senior Iranian officials to discuss the situation surrounding the strategic waterway, Pakistan-Iran bilateral relations and other matters of mutual interest. Iranian media confirmed his arrival, while details of his meeting schedule were not immediately available.

The Strait of Hormuz is expected to remain a key subject of discussions during Naqvi’s meetings in Tehran. The strategic waterway is a vital route for global energy shipments, while its security has emerged as an important issue amid Iran-US tensions. Pakistan has increasingly emerged as a channel for diplomatic communication between Iran and the United States, maintaining contacts with both sides and supporting efforts to promote dialogue, address outstanding issues and prevent further escalation of the regional crisis. Naqvi has visited Iran several times in recent months, with reports describing his latest trip as his sixth visit to Tehran since the conflict began.

Apart from regional developments, Naqvi’s meetings are also expected to focus on Pakistan-Iran bilateral relations and issues affecting the two neighbouring countries. Pakistan and Iran share a long border along with deep historical, cultural and economic ties, and both countries have continued efforts to enhance coordination on border management and other matters. During previous visits, Naqvi met senior Iranian officials, including President Masoud Pezeshkian, Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqir Qalibaf, Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and Interior Minister Eskandar Momeni. Pakistan continues to emphasize dialogue and diplomatic engagement, with the Strait of Hormuz, Iran’s nuclear program and broader regional security concerns remaining key issues in ongoing diplomatic efforts.
