India Hosts BRICS Summit as Iran War Tests Bloc Unity

NEW DELHI, 10 September, 2026 (Nosheen): India will host the BRICS Leaders’ Summit on September 12-13 in New Delhi, seeking to strengthen the bloc’s global profile as the U.S.-led war on Iran tests unity among its members, with Iran and the United Arab Emirates on opposing sides of the conflict. The summit comes more than six months after the United States and Israel launched attacks on Iran, which joined BRICS in 2024. The conflict has virtually shut down the Strait of Hormuz, a key global oil-trade route, pushing crude prices above $100 a barrel. The UAE, after being targeted by Iranian missiles since the war began, suspended all trade and financial transactions with Iran in August. Foreign policy experts said a key challenge for BRICS would be finding language on the Middle Ea...

DUBAI/CAIRO, 10 September, 2026 (Nosheen): The Middle East war intensified on Tuesday as Iranian-backed Houthis in Yemen launched strikes on several Saudi cities, while U.S. forces destroyed multiple Iranian oil tankers and Iran targeted a U.S. military base in Jordan. The U.S. military’s Central Command said it destroyed five Iranian crude oil carriers on Tuesday, describing the strikes as a response to Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps targeting a U.S. Navy warship with ballistic missiles twice over the previous two days. VIENNA, September 10, 2026 (Kamran Raja): The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Board of Governors has passed a resolution drawing a line under Syria’s past secret nuclear activities during the rule of the Assad family, saying the country’s new authorities have cooperated in resolving all outstanding questions. The 35-nation board declared Syria in breach of its nuclear non-proliferation obligations in 2011 and referred the matter to the United Nations Security Council. The move followed Israel’s 2007 bombing of a site in Syria’s eastern Deir al-Zor province, which Israel said was a secret nuclear reactor nearing completion. The IAEA subsequently demanded that Syria provide information about its nuclear activities, but Syria failed to do so at the time. Following the overthrow of B...
