Iran and Makkah Pact Members Agree to Continue Dialogue on Regional Security

Tehran, 27 October, 2026 (Ghufran): Iran and members of the Makkah Joint Defence Agreement have agreed to continue diplomatic dialogue and strengthen cooperation to promote regional peace and security following a high-level meeting in Tehran on Monday. According to Iran’s Press TV, participants agreed to maintain consultations among the four regional countries to enhance cooperation on peace and security. The discussions focused on regional tensions, the implications of US and Israeli military actions against Iran, and developments in Palestine and Lebanon. Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian emphasised the need to strengthen unity and cooperation among Muslim countries, saying Tehran was ready to support initiatives aimed at deepening regional collaboration, resolving differences and utilising the shared capabilities of Islamic nations. He said Iran supported any understanding that contributed to regional unity, security, stability and development. Iran’s Supreme National Security Council Secretary, Major General Mohsen Rezaei, welcomed senior representatives from Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Turkiye at the start of the talks. Pakistan was represented by Chief of Defence Forces and Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Asim Munir and Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, while Saudi Defence Minister Prince Khalid bin Salman and Turkish intelligence chief Ibrahim Kalin also attended. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi participated in the meeting as well. Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei said the discussions covered Israel’s policies, developments in the Palestinian territories and Lebanon, and the consequences of US and Israeli military actions against Iran. He described the meeting, proposed during Field Marshal Munir’s visit to Tehran the previous week, as a possible first step towards establishing regional security mechanisms based on the interests of countries in the region. Saudi Deputy Minister for Public Diplomacy Rayed Krimly said the meeting was part of ongoing efforts by Makkah Pact countries to reduce tensions, promote diplomatic solutions and support mediation initiatives led by Pakistan and Qatar. The talks marked a significant diplomatic engagement between Iran and the three countries belonging to the regional defence arrangement amid continuing security concerns across the Middle East. Meanwhile, Russian President Vladimir Putin was scheduled to meet Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani in Moscow on Tuesday, according to Reuters, citing the Kremlin.
