KP Governor Vows Federal Coordination, Announces Anti-Encroachment Drive

PESHAWAR, 19 October, 2026 (Ghufran): Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi has pledged closer coordination with the federal government and other provinces, saying differences would be set aside to work together for the country’s progress. Speaking to the media in Peshawar, the governor said the administration had decided to improve cleanliness across the province, adding that anti-encroachment and sanitation operations had already begun in the provincial capital. He made it clear that no personal influence or recommendations would be entertained during the operations. Kundi also announced an inquiry into the wheat issue to determine how the wheat allocated to the province had gone missing, saying the facts would be brought to light and the inquiry report released soon. He said development projects would be selected strictly on merit and only schemes beneficial to the public would be undertaken. Referring to alleged irregularities in the past, he claimed that as many as four departments had prepared bills for the same development work and vowed that public funds would not be misused. The governor said a meeting had been convened to review traffic laws and improve traffic management. New traffic regulations were being prepared, while cameras would be used to strengthen enforcement and address public complaints regarding traffic challans. Regarding electricity shortages, Kundi said he would meet officials of the Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) to discuss increasing load-shedding. He stressed that electricity theft would no longer be tolerated and consumers would be required to pay their bills. He added that the time had passed when the province repeatedly accused the federal government of discrimination over electricity and gas supplies, expressing confidence that these issues would be resolved soon. Reiterating his commitment to cooperation, the governor said the provincial administration would work closely with the federal government and maintain coordination with all provinces, setting aside political differences in the larger interest of national unity and public welfare.
