Saudi Arabia Denies Reports of Suicide Bomber at Grand Mosque in Makkah

Riyadh, 3 October, 2026 (Nosheen): Saudi authorities have denied reports of a suicide bomber at the Grand Mosque in Makkah, saying security forces arrested a man for harassing passersby and causing fear and panic. In a statement, Saudi security authorities said there was no truth to claims circulating on social media that a suspected suicide bomber wearing an explosive vest had approached the Kaaba before being arrested. Authorities provided no further details about the detained man. Separately, the Saudi-led coalition fighting Yemen’s Houthis said the group had attacked a power distribution station in Madinah that supplies electricity to the Prophet’s Mosque. The coalition said the attack damaged one transformer but did not disrupt the wider power network. A Houthi military source, cited by the Houthi-run Saba News Agency, denied the allegation and described it as false. The coalition said an investigation and examination of drone wreckage had confirmed what it described as Houthi involvement in the attack. The Houthis have also reported Saudi airstrikes on Sanaa and other parts of Yemen, while Saudi authorities have not immediately confirmed the reports. The latest escalation marks the most serious fighting between Saudi Arabia and the Houthis since a UN-brokered truce largely halted cross-border attacks in 2022. Saudi Arabia has responded with airstrikes in Yemen and supported internationally recognised Yemeni government forces fighting the Houthis. The coalition also said it intercepted and destroyed a ballistic missile launched toward Khamis Mushait in southern Saudi Arabia. Local officials separately reported that several ballistic missiles and drones targeted the headquarters of the Saudi-led coalition forces command in Aden, although there was no immediate confirmation from either side.
