Islamabad, 19 August 2026 (Ghufran): Ethiopia and Pakistan have agreed to further strengthen bilateral cooperation in the agriculture sector to promote trade and investment, technology transfer, food security and livestock development.A meeting in this regard was held at the Ministry of National Food Security and Research, Islamabad, between Ambassador of Ethiopia Dr. Oumer Hussien Oba and Federal Minister for National Food Security and Research Rana Tanveer Hussain.The meeting explored various avenues for enhancing agricultural cooperation, including a proposed agricultural pact to institutionalize collaboration and facilitate the exchange of knowledge and expertise between agricultural institutions of the two countries.The Ethiopian Ambassador highlighted the vast potential for agricultural cooperation between Ethiopia and Pakistan, emphasizing the importance of agriculture to Ethiopia’s economy and the priority accorded to the sector by the Ethiopian government.
He also briefed the Federal Minister on Ethiopia’s Green Legacy Initiative, a comprehensive programme aimed at promoting sustainable development through agricultural growth, food security, climate resilience and a green economy. The Ambassador said Ethiopia could share its expertise in the Green Legacy Initiative with Pakistan and invited Pakistani agricultural entrepreneurs to explore investment opportunities in Ethiopia’s agricultural sector.He also briefed the Federal Minister on Ethiopia’s preparations to host COP32 in Addis Ababa in 2027. Federal Minister Rana Tanveer Hussain highlighted Pakistan’s expertise in agricultural research, modern farming technologies, agricultural machinery, irrigation, livestock development and agro-processing. He expressed Pakistan’s readiness to share its experience and technical expertise with Ethiopia.He said the two countries could significantly expand cooperation in crop productivity, seed development, climate-resilient agriculture and agricultural mechanization.
