PM Shehbaz Directs NDMA to Intensify Relief Efforts in Flood-Hit Areas

ISLAMABAD, August 15, 2026(Kamran Raja): Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has directed the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) to utilise all available resources to provide immediate relief and assistance to people affected by floods following heavy monsoon rains across the country. The prime minister issued the directives during a meeting with NDMA Chairman Lieutenant General Inam Haider Malik, who briefed him on prevailing weather conditions and the flood situation resulting from the ongoing monsoon spell.Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif instructed the NDMA to maintain close and effective coordination with provincial governments and Provincial Disaster Management Authorities (PDMAs) to ensure timely assistance reaches affected communities.

The prime minister also appreciated the use of artificial intelligence and modern technology at the National Emergencies Operations Centre to monitor emergencies and strengthen the country’s response and relief efforts.During the meeting, the NDMA chairman briefed the prime minister on ongoing relief operations in flood-affected areas and measures being taken for the rehabilitation of affected people.He said relief activities would continue in flood-hit areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir with the support of the federal government.Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif emphasised that every possible step should be taken to protect affected families, provide timely assistance and ensure coordinated emergency response in the flood-hit areas.
