
Islamabad, 15 June 2026(Kamran Raja): Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif has welcomed the successful conclusion of a landmark peace agreement between the United States and the Islamic Republic of Iran, describing it as a major diplomatic achievement that will contribute to regional and global peace, stability, and security. Following intensive negotiations, both sides have agreed to the immediate and permanent cessation of military operations on all fronts, including in Lebanon. The official signing ceremony of the peace agreement is scheduled to take place on 19 June in Switzerland.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif commended the leadership of the United States and Iran for demonstrating wisdom, restraint, and commitment to resolving differences through dialogue and diplomacy. He noted that the agreement reflects the importance of constructive engagement and peaceful conflict resolution in addressing complex regional challenges. The Prime Minister also expressed Pakistan’s sincere appreciation to the leadership of the State of Qatar for its valuable role in facilitating the mediation process and supporting efforts aimed at achieving a peaceful outcome. He further acknowledged the significant contributions made by the leadership of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the Republic of Türkiye, whose diplomatic engagement and support helped create conditions conducive to the agreement. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif emphasized that the peace deal marks an important step toward reducing tensions and promoting dialogue across the region. He expressed hope that the agreement would pave the way for lasting peace, enhanced regional cooperation, and greater prosperity for the peoples of the Middle East.
With the agreement now in place, mediators will facilitate a series of meetings during the coming week. These pre-implementation discussions will establish the framework for subsequent technical negotiations and preparations leading to the official signing ceremony. The Prime Minister reaffirmed Pakistan’s longstanding support for diplomacy, dialogue, and peaceful resolution of disputes and expressed confidence that the agreement would contribute positively to regional and international stability.
