Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif Chairs Meeting on Strategy to Enhance Pakistan’s Exports

Islamabad, May 11, 2026(Kamran Raja): Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif chaired a high-level meeting today to review and discuss a comprehensive strategy aimed at increasing Pakistan’s exports and strengthening the country’s export-oriented industries.

Addressing the meeting, the Prime Minister stated that export-led industrial growth is indispensable for achieving the country’s economic development goals. He emphasized that the government remains fully focused on increasing exports and facilitating industries to improve productivity and competitiveness.

The Prime Minister directed the relevant authorities to formulate a practical framework for providing government support and incentives to small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), recognizing their vital role in boosting exports. He further instructed that a dedicated strategy be developed to encourage new businesses and industries that can contribute to expanding the country’s export base.

Highlighting the importance of innovation, the Prime Minister noted that research and development (R&D) and technological advancement in industry and trade would help Pakistani products compete more effectively in global markets.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also directed authorities to ensure the timely payment of tax refunds to exporters in order to facilitate business operations and support export growth.

During the meeting, participants were briefed on the proposed export enhancement strategy. The policy draft was discussed in detail, and participants presented their views and recommendations.

The meeting was attended by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar, Federal Minister for Economic Affairs Ahad Khan Cheema, Federal Minister for Commerce Jam Kamal Khan, Federal Minister for National Food Security and Research Rana Tanveer Hussain, Federal Minister for Climate Change Musadik Malik, Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue Muhammad Aurangzeb, Federal Minister for Information Technology and Telecommunication Shaza Fatima Khawaja, Minister of State for Finance and Railways Bilal Azhar Kayani, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Industries and Production Haroon Akhtar Khan, along with senior government officials.
