Riyadh, 7 November, 2026 (Ghufran): The Saudi-led coalition in Yemen has announced that its air defence systems intercepted and destroyed a cruise missile launched by the Houthi movement towards Saudi Arabia’s Riyadh region. Coalition spokesperson Major General Turki al-Maliki confirmed the interception in a statement posted on the social media platform X, describing the missile as having been launched by the Houthi militia. The incident comes amid renewed tensions and escalating hostilities between the Saudi-led coalition and Yemen’s Houthi group. Saudi Arabia has led a military coalition supporting Yemen’s internationally recognised government against the Houthis since 2015, following the group’s takeover of the capital, Sanaa, and other parts of the country in 2014. Separately, Yemen’s army said it had recaptured several areas in the southwestern Taiz province during intense clashes with Houthi forces. According to the military, government troops, backed by the Popular Resistance, regained control of Al-Nidani village, Shaab Al-Sarari, large parts of the Sanamat area and the Ribat Al-Qarn area in Dhi al-Barh. Fighting was continuing on the Saber front, while government forces had tightened their siege around entrances to Al-Sarari, the army said. The military also claimed that the Houthis had suffered significant losses in personnel and equipment, adding that government forces were consolidating their positions in the recaptured areas and conducting mine-clearance operations. Meanwhile, Yemen’s Defence Ministry accused the Houthi group of firing a ballistic missile at a crowded public market, killing and injuring dozens of civilians.
