Lahore, 6 October 2026 (Nosheen): The Punjab government has imposed Section 144 across the province for 10 days amid security concerns, banning gatherings of five or more people. The government said Punjab faces a serious and imminent threat to public peace, the safety of life and property from militant and terrorist organizations as well as hostile intelligence agencies. The decision comes a day after Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s long march reached Kohat, with the convoy led by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi and continuing towards Islamabad. According to a notification issued by the Punjab Home Department, the restrictions have been imposed under Section 144(6) of the Code of Criminal Procedure, 1898. The notification stated that credible reports from law enforcement and intelligence agencies indicated a serious and imminent threat across Punjab. Authorities also cited multiple threat alerts concerning possible terrorist activities, including attacks involving suicide bombers, vehicle-borne improvised explosive devices and target killings during large public gatherings.
