
Islamabad, August 20, 2026(Kamran Raja): Foreign Minister of the Syrian Arab Republic, Mr. Asaad Hassan Al-Shaibani, called on Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif today.
Welcoming the Syrian Foreign Minister and his delegation, the Prime Minister conveyed his best wishes for President Ahmed al-Sharaa and recalled his recent interactions with him. He reaffirmed Pakistan’s steadfast support for Syria’s sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity.
Recalling the historic and multifaceted ties between Pakistan and Syria, the Prime Minister stressed the importance of transforming the longstanding friendship into enhanced bilateral cooperation in political, defence, trade, investment, education and human resource development.
The Prime Minister underscored that the resumption of direct flights between Pakistan and Syria would further strengthen people-to-people contacts and facilitate the large number of Pakistani pilgrims undertaking religious visits to Syria.
Reaffirming Pakistan’s principled position, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif stated that Pakistan would continue to support Syria’s sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity and firmly stand by Syria’s position on the occupied Golan Heights.
The Syrian Foreign Minister conveyed the greetings of President Ahmed al-Sharaa to the Prime Minister and briefed him on Syria’s ongoing political transition and reconstruction efforts. He thanked Pakistan for its consistent support to Syria and expressed his government’s keen interest in revitalizing bilateral relations, including through the establishment of early institutional mechanisms for cooperation.
Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif also extended an invitation to President Ahmed al-Sharaa to undertake an official visit to Pakistan at a mutually convenient date.
Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Muhammad Ishaq Dar, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister Syed Tariq Fatemi and Foreign Secretary Ambassador Amna Baloch were also present during the meeting.
