Pakistan, China Agree to Deepen Cooperation on Immigration, Border Management and Cross-Border Security
Islamabad 17 July 2026(Kamran Raja): Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry held a meeting with a high-level Chinese delegation led by Mr. Qi Jingyang, Director General of China’s National Immigration Administration, to discuss enhanced bilateral cooperation in immigration, border management, and institutional collaboration.
The two sides agreed to further strengthen cooperation in immigration management, border security, and law enforcement coordination. They also reaffirmed their commitment to enhancing joint efforts against illegal immigration, arms smuggling, and cross-border crimes through more effective coordinated operations.
During the meeting, both sides decided to expedite the finalization of an agreement aimed at streamlining immigration processes and facilitating smoother movement between the two countries.
It was further agreed to establish a Pakistan-China Joint Working Group on Border Management and Security to promote closer coordination and information sharing.
Speaking on the occasion, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi said Pakistan is committed to expanding cooperation with China in land border management, seaport security, and immigration administration.
He emphasized that the Government of Pakistan is implementing a zero-tolerance policy against illegal immigration, unlawful border crossings, and smuggling, adding that indiscriminate action is being taken against all individuals involved in such criminal activities.
The Interior Minister also informed the delegation that a Gilgit-Baltistan Scouts checkpoint is being established at the Khunjerab Pass to further strengthen border security.
Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry said that Pakistan and China would work together to effectively curb illegal immigration and transnational border crimes through enhanced bilateral cooperation.
Director General Qi Jingyang appreciated Pakistan’s effective measures against illegal border crossings and smuggling, and reaffirmed that China considers Pakistan a strategic partner and is committed to further strengthening cooperation in the field of immigration and border security.
He also assured that China would continue supporting the capacity building of Pakistani institutions.
During the meeting, the Chinese delegation conveyed an invitation from China’s Minister of Public Security to Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi to participate in the upcoming Public Security Forum in China. The delegation also extended an invitation to a delegation from Pakistan’s Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) to attend the forum.
The Chinese Ambassador informed the meeting that Pakistani police officers would travel to China later this month for specialized training. He further noted that Chinese instructors are currently providing specialized Chinese language training to personnel of Pakistan’s Special Protection Unit (SPU).
The meeting was also attended by the Chinese Ambassador to Pakistan, the Secretary Interior, the Director General of the FIA, the Director General of the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA), the Chief Commissioner Islamabad, and the Inspector General of Islamabad Police.
