Islamabad, July 22, 2026(Nosheen): The Centre for Afghanistan, Middle East & Africa (CAMEA) at the Institute of Strategic Studies Islamabad (ISSI), in collaboration with the Pakistan Africa Institute for Development and Research (PAIDAR), organized a commemorative event to mark Egypt’s Revolution Day, highlighting the enduring friendship and growing strategic partnership between Pakistan and Egypt.
The ceremony commenced with the national anthems of Pakistan and Egypt. The event featured remarks by Ambassador Moin ul Haque, Director General ISSI; Ambassador Khalid Mahmood, Chairman, Board of Governors, ISSI; Senator Mushahid Hussain Sayed, President PAIDAR; Ambassador Aamir Shoukat, Pakistan’s Ambassador to Egypt; and Dr. Amina Khan, Director, CAMEA. The Chief Guest was Dr. Ihab Abdelhamid Hassan, Ambassador of Egypt to Pakistan, while Ambassador Hamid Asghar Khan, Additional Foreign Secretary (Africa), Ministry of Foreign Affairs, attended as the Guest of Honor.
In his welcome remarks, Ambassador Moin ul Haque highlighted Egypt’s rich civilizational heritage and its pivotal role in the Arab, African, and Islamic worlds. He underscored the longstanding Pakistan–Egypt friendship, built on shared history, mutual respect, and close cooperation, while emphasizing Egypt’s significance within Pakistan’s Engage Africa policy. He also reaffirmed ISSI’s commitment to expanding collaboration with Egyptian think tanks and academic institutions through research partnerships, policy dialogue, and academic exchanges.
Addressing the gathering, Egyptian Ambassador Dr. Ihab Abdelhamid Hassan described the 23 July 1952 Revolution as a defining milestone in Egypt’s modern history that advanced the principles of national independence, sovereignty, and social justice. He noted that the Revolution inspired liberation movements across the Arab world, Africa, and the Global South. Highlighting the longstanding and multifaceted partnership between Pakistan and Egypt, he welcomed the growing momentum in bilateral relations, including high-level exchanges and the successful conclusion of the 10th round of bilateral political consultations. He reaffirmed the commitment of both countries to dialogue, diplomacy, international law, and multilateral cooperation while emphasizing the important role of think tanks and academic institutions in promoting greater collaboration in trade, investment, defence, education, culture, and people-to-people exchanges.
Dr. Amina Khan emphasized the historical significance of the 1952 Revolution and highlighted the close and longstanding friendship between Pakistan and Egypt, noting the two countries’ shared perspectives on key regional and international issues. She also reaffirmed CAMEA’s commitment to strengthening Pakistan’s engagement with Africa through research and policy dialogue.
Senator Mushahid Hussain Sayed described Egypt as the centre of gravity in the Arab world and recalled that it was among the few countries visited by Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah. He observed that the 1952 Revolution marked a turning point in the region’s history, inspiring nationalist movements across the Arab world, and reaffirmed the strategic importance of Pakistan–Egypt relations.
Pakistan’s Ambassador to Egypt, Ambassador Aamir Shoukat, highlighted the enduring and multifaceted relationship between the two countries, underscoring the close political dialogue and the recent revival of bilateral consultations. He praised Egypt’s impressive development achievements and stressed the need to expand cooperation in trade, investment, academic exchanges, and think tank collaboration.
Guest of Honor Ambassador Hamid Asghar Khan highlighted Egypt’s unparalleled civilizational, cultural, and intellectual heritage, describing Cairo as a historic centre of learning and religious diversity. He underscored Egypt’s strategic importance as a key partner for Pakistan in advancing regional peace, South–South cooperation, and economic connectivity, while emphasizing the growing opportunities for collaboration in trade, investment, defence, tourism, and people-to-people exchanges.
Concluding the event, Ambassador Khalid Mahmood highlighted the significance of Egypt’s Revolution Day and commended Egypt’s influential role in promoting peace, security, and development. He reaffirmed the enduring friendship between Pakistan and Egypt and stressed the importance of further strengthening bilateral cooperation across diverse sectors.
The event reflected the shared commitment of Pakistan and Egypt to deepening bilateral ties and expanding cooperation through sustained diplomatic engagement, academic collaboration, and people-to-people exchanges.
