Harmanpreet Kaur Steps Down as India Women’s Captain Across All Formats

New Delhi, October 6, 2026 (Nosheen): India women’s cricket captain Harmanpreet Kaur has stepped down from captaincy across all formats after several years in the leadership role, announcing her decision on social media. Indian media reports said the decision came following a review meeting of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) in Guwahati. Harmanpreet said stepping down was not an easy decision because of the memories and emotions associated with leading the national team over the years. Reports suggested that star batter Smriti Mandhana could be considered as her successor as India’s women’s captain. Harmanpreet will, however, continue to represent India as a player after relinquishing the leadership role.
