UNCTAD AND SOCIAL PROTECTION RESOURCE CENTRE HOST CONFERENCE
“GREEN INDUSTRIALIZATION IN PAKISTAN: INTEGRATED POLICY STRATEGIES FOR A SUSTAINABLE FUTURE”
A two-day conference on Green Industrialization in Pakistan hosted by UNCTAD and SPRC was held on October 17-18, 2023 in Serena Hotel. The conference brought together a host of influential leaders, industry titans, subject experts, and stakeholders who converged to deliberate and act upon the vision of a more environmentally responsible and resilient industrial future. This conference marks the launch of UNCTAD’s Pakistan project which is part of a bigger project on resilient, green, and transformative development in Asian Belt and Road Countries.
Moreover, the event marked the launch of the Green Industrialization Development Collective (GIDC), a robust forum that unites stakeholders from industry, academia, government, and the development sector. GIDC aims to bring actionable progress toward green industrialization in Pakistan.
“The launch of GIDC is a pivotal moment in Pakistan’s journey towards green industrialization. It unites the expertise and commitment of multiple sectors, creating a formidable force for sustainable change,” said Dr. Safdar Sohail, Executive Director at SPRC.
“Finance is the binding constraint for green industrialization in Pakistan.” said Dr. Richard Kozul-Wright, Director UNCTAD, Geneva
Sessions revolved around challenges and opportunities for a green transition in Pakistan, benefitting better from international climate finance, and the nuances of green industrialization in Pakistan. As the Green Industrialization Conference in Pakistan moves forward, it is hoped that insights and recommendations from these sessions, along with the dynamic launch of the Green Industrialization Development Collective (GIDC), will serve as a catalyst for change and progress toward a more sustainable and environmentally conscious industrial future for Pakistan.
