Islamabad 18 April 2026(Kamran Raja):Federal Minister for IT and Information, Ghulam Abbas, held a meeting with a delegation from Huawei Technologies Pakistan to explore opportunities for advancing digital transformation in Gilgit-Baltistan.
The meeting took place at Huawei’s office in Islamabad, where both sides discussed a wide range of initiatives aimed at strengthening the information and communication technology (ICT) landscape in the region.
A key focus of the discussion was enhancing digital literacy among the youth of Gilgit-Baltistan. The Huawei delegation expressed strong interest in supporting capacity-building efforts through its ICT Certification Program, designed to equip young individuals with essential skills for emerging opportunities in the technology sector.
The delegation also sought the minister’s support in promoting the Prime Minister’s ICT Training Initiative to expand outreach among the region’s youth, enabling them to benefit from training programs and contribute to building a skilled workforce.
Both sides further deliberated on technical and vocational training initiatives aimed at creating immediate employment opportunities. They underscored the importance of developing a trained talent pool to support economic growth and meet evolving workforce demands.
In addition, discussions covered the digitization of key government sectors, including tourism, healthcare, and mining. The participants agreed that adopting digital solutions in these sectors would improve service delivery, enhance transparency, and boost operational efficiency.
The meeting concluded with a mutual commitment to strengthen collaboration and take practical steps toward building a more robust ICT ecosystem in Gilgit-Baltistan, with a shared vision of expanding digital access and innovation across the region.
