Peshawar, 02 September 2026(Kamran Raja): The Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) Peshawar conducted a successful intelligence-based operation in the Budhber area, killing four armed terrorists affiliated with the banned international terrorist organisation, Fitna al-Khawarij.
According to the CTD, intelligence reports had indicated the movement of armed terrorists in the area who were allegedly involved in challenging the writ of the state and planning terrorist activities. Following the information, special CTD SWAT teams were deployed and ambushes were established at possible entry and exit points.
During the operation, two motorcycles carrying suspected individuals were signalled to stop. However, the suspects abandoned their motorcycles and opened fire on the police team. CTD personnel returned fire in self-defence, resulting in an exchange of fire that continued for approximately 20 to 30 minutes.
Following the exchange, a search operation was conducted in the area, during which four terrorists were found dead. The identification of the deceased terrorists is currently underway. Initial information suggests that foreign terrorist commander Tahir alias Muawiya, a resident of Shakas, Khyber District, may be among those killed; however, further verification is in progress.
The CTD recovered three SMGs, one pistol, a hand grenade, a mobile phone, three magazines and several rounds of ammunition from the possession of the deceased terrorists. Two motorcycles allegedly used by the terrorists were also taken into police custody.
During the search, an Afghan Tazkira was recovered from the pocket of one of the deceased. The document was issued in the name of Aman Khan son of Ali Khan, resident of Kunar, Afghanistan. The photograph on the document reportedly matches the deceased; however, further verification and legal proceedings are underway.
The Bomb Disposal Unit (BDU) and Crime Scene Unit were called to the site to collect evidence and conduct the necessary forensic and technical procedures.
A search operation is continuing in Budhber and adjoining areas to apprehend the terrorists who managed to escape under the cover of darkness.
Inspector General of Police Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Zulfiqar Hameed and Additional Inspector General of Police, Counter Terrorism Department Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, appreciated the professional performance of CTD officers and personnel and encouraged them for the successful operation.
They reaffirmed that indiscriminate operations against terrorist elements would continue across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to maintain peace and protect the lives and property of the public. Terrorists and their facilitators will not be allowed to disrupt law and order and all those involved in terrorism will be dealt with in accordance with the law.
