PESHAWAR, 2 September, 2026(Kamran Raja): Inspector General of Police Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Zulfiqar Hameed chaired the 83rd meeting of the Police Policy Board at the Central Police Office Peshawar today. The meeting reviewed a range of important matters aimed at making the policing system more effective, modern and result-oriented across the province. Discussions focused on enhancing the operational capacity of the police force, provision of modern technology and equipment, effective deployment of heavy weapons, welfare issues of the children of police martyrs, and promotion of forensic services. Additional IGs, DIGs, DG PCO, Commandants of FRP and SSU, Director IT and other relevant police officers attended the meeting. The participants held detailed discussions on the operational requirements of the police and the effective use of modern technology. The meeting reviewed the equal provision of APCs and drones to address different security challenges in sensitive districts. The Police Policy Board also considered the allocation and relocation of heavy weapons. The meeting emphasized that the provision of heavy weapons should be aligned with ground realities, the sensitivity of different areas and operational requirements in view of modern security challenges. Issues concerning the recruitment of children of police martyrs as ASIs (BS-11) against supernumerary/temporary posts were also discussed. The board reviewed measures to address related issues in accordance with the applicable rules and regulations.
The meeting also examined the launch of modern facilities for vehicle verification and forensic examination at the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL). The initiative was termed an important step towards strengthening the investigation system, improving the investigation of vehicle-related crimes and promoting evidence-based investigations through modern scientific techniques. The nomination of DSPs appointed through the fast-track promotion process in 2025 for the Advanced Course was also considered. The participants discussed measures to enhance professional training, operational capabilities and the effectiveness of the promotion system for police officers. The board also reviewed the existing policing system in comparison with proposed new procedures, with the objective of eliminating unnecessary complexities and making the policing system more efficient, responsive, speedy and public-friendly. Addressing the participants, IG Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Zulfiqar Hameed said that, in the prevailing security situation, equipping the police with modern technology, advanced equipment and effective resources, alongside traditional policing methods, was a pressing need.
He said that the basic objective of the decisions taken by the Police Policy Board was to enhance the professional capacity of the police force, ensure effective utilization of resources and provide better policing services to the public. The IG KP termed the welfare of the families of police martyrs and resolution of their legitimate issues an important component of the police welfare policy. He directed the concerned authorities to ensure effective measures for the welfare and protection of the legitimate rights of the families of martyrs in accordance with rules and regulations. IG Zulfiqar Hameed further stated that the families of police martyrs were a valuable asset of the police force and assured that all possible steps would be taken to address their concerns, promote their welfare and protect their legitimate rights. He directed the concerned officers to ensure clear recommendations, actionable proposals and practical progress within the stipulated timelines on all matters discussed during the meeting. The meeting reiterated the commitment to further accelerate the reform process to transform the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police into a strong, professional, technology-equipped and public-friendly force capable of meeting modern security challenges.
