MUZAFFARABAD, 09 August 2026 (Kamran Raja): Azad Jammu and Kashmir Inspector General of Police Capt. (retd.) Liaquat Ali Malik has alleged that a banned group is attempting to create unrest in Azad Jammu and Kashmir through what he described as an anti-state propaganda campaign.Addressing a ceremony in Muzaffarabad held to observe Police Martyrs’ Day, the AJK police chief called for a fact-based assessment of the circumstances surrounding the death of police officer Aqib.The IGP alleged that members of the banned organisation abducted family members who had arrived to receive Aqib’s body. He further claimed that the family members were subjected to violence and humiliation and that videos of the alleged incident were recorded.According to Capt. (retd.) Malik, Aqib sustained critical injuries and died while being transported in an ambulance, while his body was allegedly kept for four days.
The police chief questioned what he termed contradictory narratives surrounding the incident, asking whether individuals accused of attacking police officers should be portrayed as victims while those responsible for protecting public safety were described as aggressors.He said the reality of the banned group and the circumstances surrounding the incident could be better understood by speaking to Aqib’s father and other family members who, according to him, directly experienced the events.Capt. (retd.) Malik further alleged that the organisation was attempting to exploit Aqib’s death to spread unrest and instability across Azad Jammu and Kashmir.He maintained that the alleged anti-state propaganda campaign had failed and stressed that the circumstances surrounding Aqib’s death should be examined on the basis of verified facts and evidence rather than competing narratives.The AJK police chief reiterated the importance of maintaining peace and stability in the region and called for responsible handling of sensitive incidents to prevent the spread of misinformation and unrest.
