RAWALPINDI, 06 September, 2026 (Kamran Raja): The Armed Forces of Pakistan have paid profound tribute to the Shuhada (martyrs) of Pakistan and expressed their deepest respect and gratitude to the Ghazis and families of martyrs on the occasion of the 61st Defence and Martyrs’ Day. Chief of Defence Forces and Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Naveed Ashraf, Chief of Air Staff Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmed Baber Sidhu and Commander National Strategic Command General Syed Aamer Raza paid tribute to the sacrifices rendered in defence of the country. In a statement, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said September 6 remains an enduring symbol of national unity, courage and resolve, recalling how the Pakistani nation stood united in defence of the motherland during the 1965 war. The military’s media wing said the martyrs embodied the highest ideals of honour, duty and sacrifice, while their immortal legacy continues to inspire future generations. It also paid tribute to the families of the martyrs for their courage and resilience and saluted the Ghazis who continue to guard the country’s frontiers with valour and dedication.The ISPR said the Armed Forces remain fully prepared to safeguard Pakistan’s sovereignty, territorial integrity and national interests. Pakistan seeks peace, stability and prosperity in the region and remains committed to peaceful coexistence and responsible conduct, it said, adding that such commitment should never be mistaken for weakness and any aggression against Pakistan would receive a swift and decisive response. On Defence and Martyrs’ Day, the Armed Forces renewed their pledge of unwavering devotion to Pakistan and its people, vowing to continue discharging their responsibilities with honour, professionalism and steadfast resolve.
