Islamabad, 8 November, 2026 (Ghufran): Three oil tankers caught fire following explosions in the Strait of Hormuz after allegedly attempting to pass through a maritime route declared unauthorized by Iran, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has claimed. According to the international news agency AFP, the IRGC said in a statement issued on Sunday that three oil tankers had caught fire since morning after explosions while travelling through a route that Tehran had not approved. The Iranian force claimed that the explosions occurred after the vessels struck naval mines placed along the maritime passage, describing their movement through the route as unauthorized. Iranian authorities have not yet disclosed the names, ownership or nationalities of the affected tankers. Details regarding the crew members and any possible casualties have also not been released. Iran has urged vessels to follow its designated maritime routes, while the United States has imposed a naval blockade on Iranian ports. The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world’s most important maritime trade routes, carrying a significant share of global oil shipments. Rising tensions in the strategic waterway have heightened concerns over potential disruptions to international energy transportation and global oil supplies.
