Punjab proposes child protection committees in government schools

Islamabad, 7 November, 2026 (Nosheen): Chairperson of the Punjab Child Protection and Welfare Bureau Sarah Ahmed has written to the Secretary of School Education, proposing the establishment of child protection committees in government schools across the province and the inclusion of child safety education in the school curriculum. In her letter, she recommended introducing a comprehensive awareness and protection mechanism in public schools in line with the vision of the Punjab Chief Minister. Sarah Ahmed proposed forming child protection committees comprising students, teachers and parents to raise awareness about children’s rights, identify protection-related concerns and ensure their timely reporting to the relevant authorities. She emphasized that lessons on good touch, bad touch and personal safety should be incorporated into the curriculum to help children understand physical safety, personal boundaries, recognize inappropriate behaviour and report concerns promptly to trusted adults. The letter also recommended including digital safety education in the curriculum to protect children from cyberbullying, online harassment, online grooming and digital exploitation. Sarah Ahmed said educating children about the safe and responsible use of social media, online privacy and digital footprints had become an essential need. The proposed measures aim to strengthen child protection awareness and create safer learning environments in government schools across Punjab.
