Lahore, 26 October, 2026 (Nosheen): The Punjab government has extended the detention of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan’s sisters, Aleema Khan, Uzma Khan and Noreen Niazi, by another 30 days, the Lahore High Court (LHC) was informed on Monday. A government lawyer submitted a report prepared by the Punjab home secretary in response to a petition challenging the detention of the former prime minister’s sisters. According to the report, the extension was approved by the provincial government following a recommendation from the deputy commissioner. Aleema Khan was detained under Section 3 of the Maintenance of Public Order (MPO) on September 20 in Lahore and shifted to Kot Lakhpat Jail, while her sisters, Uzma Khan and Noreen Niazi, were detained the following day on police recommendations. The detentions came ahead of PTI’s planned nationwide protests and long march to Islamabad, scheduled for September 27, demanding Imran Khan’s release and the supremacy of the Constitution. Shahrez Khan, Aleema Khan’s son, had filed a petition in the LHC on October 20 challenging the detentions. During the proceedings, the petitioner’s counsel argued that the detention orders had expired on October 19 and 20 and requested the court to order that the three sisters be recovered and presented before it. The government lawyer informed the court that the detention had been extended on October 7 for another 30 days. The Punjab home secretary and the superintendent of Kot Lakhpat Jail appeared before the court in compliance with its earlier order. After reviewing the report submitted by the home secretary, the court disposed of the petition. The court also observed that the detention notification had been issued by the deputy commissioner, who had not been made a party to the case.
