Japan-Funded Tine Girls Model Primary School Inaugurated in Islamabad

Islamabad, 21 October, 2026 (Kamran Raja): Japanese Ambassador to Pakistan Akamatsu Shuichi on Wednesday inaugurated the newly constructed Tine Girls Model Primary School in Tarnol, Islamabad, under a project funded by the Government of Japan. The project was implemented by the Community Services Programme (CSP), a non-governmental organization working to improve the lives of vulnerable and marginalized communities across Pakistan through education, healthcare, clean water and women’s empowerment. The Government of Japan provided financial assistance of $44,025 through its Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP) programme to support the construction of the school. The inauguration ceremony was attended by officials of the Japanese Embassy, CSP representatives, teachers, students, parents and members of the local community. The newly constructed school comprises eight classrooms and essential facilities, including a principal’s office, washrooms, a leveled playground and 250 student chairs. CSP also contributed additional resources to install a solar power system, an underground water storage tank, an electric water cooler and an interactive smart board to promote digital learning. The project aims to address the shortage of quality educational facilities for girls in Tarnol, where various barriers continue to limit their access to education. The school currently has 240 enrolled students and can accommodate up to 250 learners, providing them with a safe, comfortable and modern learning environment. Addressing the ceremony, Ambassador Akamatsu congratulated CSP on completing the project despite challenging weather conditions. He emphasized that education is a fundamental human right and a cornerstone of human security, adding that it lays the foundation for a better and more prosperous society. He highlighted the importance of girls’ education for Pakistan’s future and reaffirmed that education remains a key priority of Japan’s development cooperation with Pakistan. The ambassador reiterated Japan’s commitment to supporting Pakistan’s sustainable development and expressed hope that the school would serve as a lasting symbol of the longstanding friendship and cooperation between Japan and Pakistan.
