WASHINGTON, 13 October, 2026 (Kamran Raja): US President Donald Trump has condemned Houthi attacks on Saudi Arabia following a telephone conversation with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, as the Saudi-led coalition reported intercepting a missile over Riyadh. The developments have heightened regional tensions, with Houthi rebels threatening a “swift and painful” response against US interests across the Middle East if Washington joins Saudi military operations against the group in Yemen. Houthi political bureau member Mohammed Al Bukhaiti told AFP that any US involvement in what he described as aggression against Yemen would prompt an immediate response targeting the United States and its interests in the region. He also warned employees and workers at Saudi oil facilities and airports to stay away from the sites, describing them as potential targets. The threats followed a deadly attack on King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh that reportedly killed at least 13 people and injured hundreds. Condemning the incident at the White House, Trump described the attack as unacceptable and criticised the Houthis for their actions. He also confirmed that he had spoken with Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, although details of their conversation were not disclosed. Meanwhile, explosions were reported over Riyadh on Monday night, and the Saudi-led coalition said it had intercepted a Houthi missile. The Houthis claimed responsibility for another attack targeting the airport. Bukhaiti said the attacks were intended to send a message to the Saudi crown prince that he could no longer carry out military operations against Yemen from a position of safety. The latest threats and missile interceptions have raised concerns about further escalation between the Houthis, Saudi Arabia and the United States.
