Islamabad, 11 October, 2026 (Ghufran): Information Minister Attaullah Tarar has accused the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI)-led Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government of having alleged links with terrorist groups, while Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi defended the federal government’s decision to impose Governor’s Rule in the province, citing the deteriorating security situation. Addressing a press conference in Islamabad, Tarar claimed that militants had gained influence in several districts, although the allegations have not been independently verified. Naqvi said the federal government had spent a month trying to reach an understanding with the provincial government and opposition through negotiations, but the efforts failed to produce an agreement. He clarified that the government had no objection to the sit-in, stressing that its primary concern was terrorism. The interior minister described the security situation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa as extremely serious and claimed that 518 police personnel had been martyred over the past 18 months. He emphasized that terrorism could not be defeated through the efforts of a single party and called for a coordinated strategy involving federal and provincial governments and relevant institutions. The federal government has described restoring peace and strengthening counterterrorism efforts in the province as its top priority.
