UK Police Arrest Dual UK-Iranian National in RAF Fairford Terror Plot Investigation

London, 2 October, 2026 (Ghufran): British counter-terrorism police have arrested a 25-year-old dual UK-Iranian national in London as part of an investigation into a suspected terrorist plot involving RAF Fairford, a military air base in western England used by the United States for operations against Iran. The arrest follows the detention of five British men in their 20s near the air base on Sunday on suspicion of terrorism and explosives offences. The five men were later released without charge on police bail, while investigators continued examining whether a foreign state was involved in the incident. Britain’s Senior National Coordinator for Counter Terrorism Policing, Vicki Evans, said the investigation into the events in Gloucestershire was highly complex and that specialist teams were pursuing multiple lines of inquiry, including possible foreign state involvement. Police launched a major operation in the early hours of Sunday following various pieces of information, including an alert from a local farmer who became suspicious after seeing the men near the base in three vans. Detectives confirmed that petrol was found in the vans, but no improvised explosive device was discovered. British authorities are also examining reports that one of the men contacted emergency services shortly before his arrest. The investigation has raised concerns among Western allies and prompted Britain to work closely with the United States. US bombers have used RAF Fairford in recent months for missions against Iran. Iran has rejected allegations of involvement as baseless and summoned the British ambassador in Tehran over the matter. US President Donald Trump and Secretary of State Marco Rubio have previously suggested that the incident may have involved a foreign actor, while British authorities have stressed that the investigation remains ongoing and that all possible lines of inquiry are being examined.
