Islamabad, 2 October, 2026 (Kamran Raja): Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif has directed the Ministry of Railways to take effective measures to improve passenger facilities, ensure the safety of train travellers and carry out timely maintenance and repair of railway tracks. The prime minister issued the directives during a meeting with Federal Minister for Railways Muhammad Hanif Abbasi, who briefed him on matters concerning the ministry and ongoing development projects. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif stressed that practical steps should be taken to ensure the timely repair and maintenance of railway tracks, emphasizing that passenger safety must remain a top priority. He also called for further measures to make Pakistan Railways’ freight services more effective, noting the importance of strengthening the freight sector. During the meeting, the federal minister apprised the prime minister of various matters related to the Ministry of Railways, including ongoing development initiatives. The two sides also discussed other matters of mutual interest.
