Ishaq Dar departs for New York to attend 81st UN General Assembly session

ISLAMABAD, 20 September, 2026 (Ghufran): Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar has departed Islamabad for New York to attend the high-level segment of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly, where he will join Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif from September 21 to 25. According to the Foreign Office, Dar will have an extensive programme of diplomatic engagements during the high-level week, including participation in a meeting of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Contact Group on Jammu and Kashmir, where Pakistan will reiterate its support for the rights of Kashmiris. He will also attend several OIC ministerial meetings on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly, including the annual coordination meeting of OIC foreign ministers and other meetings of the OIC Contact Group. Dar will participate in high-level meetings on Palestine, including a meeting of the group of eight Arab and Islamic countries and a high-level ministerial meeting of the Global Alliance for the Implementation of the Two-State Solution. He will also address a high-level briefing of the UN Security Council on artificial intelligence and participate in a high-level meeting on pandemic prevention, preparedness and response. The deputy prime minister and foreign minister will chair a meeting of the Council of Ministers of the Economic Cooperation Organization and hold bilateral meetings with foreign ministers from several countries. According to the Foreign Office, Dar will also participate in high-level bilateral meetings and other engagements alongside Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, highlighting Pakistan’s efforts for regional and global peace and stability and discussing key regional and international challenges.
