Islamabad, 16 September 2026(Kamran Raja): The SK Hydropower Station in Mansehra organized an event titled “75 Years Hand in Hand, Building a Green and Sustainable Future Together” to mark the 75th anniversary of Pakistan-China diplomatic relations.
The event also marked the 10th anniversary of the groundbreaking of the SK Hydropower Project and the second anniversary of its commercial operation.
Deputy Commissioner Mansehra Khalid Iqbal, Brigadier Hamid Karim Beg of the Pakistan Army, KP Environmental Protection Agency Director General Tariq Ali Khan, Director Fisheries Muhammad Shafi and Chairman China Energy Overseas Investment Co., Ltd. Lin Xiaodan attended the event.
Around 100 representatives from government departments, security forces, project partners and contractors participated.
Speaking at the event, Deputy Commissioner Khalid Iqbal appreciated the performance of the SK Hydropower Station and said the project was an important example of Pakistan-China cooperation in clean energy.
He said the project was contributing to Pakistan’s energy security by generating clean electricity and supporting efforts to reduce dependence on fossil fuels. He assured that the district administration would continue to facilitate the project’s operations.
KP EPA Director General Tariq Ali Khan appreciated the project’s environmental initiatives and said that ecological protection and hydropower development could go hand in hand.
Director Fisheries Muhammad Shafi praised the project’s trout hatchery and tree plantation activities, saying these initiatives were helping protect aquatic life and the local environment.
Chairman China Energy Overseas Investment Co., Ltd. Lin Xiaodan thanked the Pakistani authorities and local communities for their continued support. He said the project would continue providing reliable clean energy and supporting local economic and social development.
During the event, Chinese and Pakistani representatives distributed educational grants to deserving local students. The project has supported 63 local students over the past three years.
More than 5,000 native fish fry were also released into the Kunhar River to support aquatic biodiversity and maintain the ecological balance of the river basin.
The event concluded with a joint cake-cutting ceremony. Participants expressed their commitment to further strengthening Pakistan-China cooperation in clean energy, environmental protection and local development.
