TEHRAN, 26 August 2026 (Ghufran) — Iran and Oman have resumed discussions on managing navigation through the Strait of Hormuz amid continued diplomatic tensions between Iran and the United States and growing economic pressure on Tehran.The two countries said they discussed establishing a joint temporary navigational corridor through the strategic waterway and agreed to clear the route of mines.The Strait of Hormuz is a critical global energy route, carrying a significant share of the world’s oil and liquefied natural gas shipments. Most commercial shipping through the waterway has remained disrupted since the conflict began in February.US President Donald Trump said that all mines in the strait had been cleared, repeating comments he had made previously.Although active hostilities between the United States and Iran have largely subsided, diplomatic efforts to reach a peace agreement remain stalled, while navigation through the waterway continues to face security risks. The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations said an oil tanker was struck by an unidentified projectile on Tuesday and was disabled approximately nine nautical miles (17 kilometres) northeast of Ash Shishah in Oman, near the entrance to the Strait of Hormuz. Meanwhile, the US Secret Service said it was aware of a video broadcast by Iranian state television that discussed a potential plot targeting US President Donald Trump’s youngest son, Barron Trump.The developments have further highlighted the fragile security situation surrounding the Strait of Hormuz and the importance of maintaining safe navigation through the strategic waterway.
