Shangla, 14 August 2026(News Desk): Pakistan’s 79th Independence Day was celebrated across Shangla district with traditional enthusiasm, patriotic fervour and a strong spirit of national unity.
A number of programmes were organized by the district administration, police, education and health departments, Rescue 1122, Youth Affairs and other government departments. The activities included flag-hoisting ceremonies, a colourful flag march, tributes to martyrs, cake-cutting ceremonies, visits to hospitals and patients, plantation drives and special programmes for orphan children.
The main Independence Day ceremony was held at the office of the Deputy Commissioner in Shangla, where the national flag was hoisted with full national honour. The national anthem was played and special prayers were offered for Pakistan’s security, stability, prosperity and development.
Senior officials of the district administration, police, line departments and other government institutions attended the ceremony and paid tribute to the founders of Pakistan, leaders of the freedom movement and the martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the creation and defence of the country.
A colourful flag march was organized by Shangla Police and the district administration from District Headquarters Alpuri to mark Independence Day.
Deputy Commissioner Shangla Muhammad Abdullah Shah and District Police Officer Ikramullah led the march, which was attended by senior police and civil administration officials, personnel and Rescue 1122 officials.
The march proceeded from District Headquarters Alpuri to the University of Shangla before returning to the district headquarters. Police vehicles decorated with national and police flags added to the festive atmosphere.
Special programmes were held at Government Centennial Model High School Alpuri and other educational institutions across the district. Students and teachers participated enthusiastically in speeches, national songs and other activities highlighting the significance of independence and the responsibilities of the younger generation.
At Pakistan Bait-ul-Mal’s Sweet Home Alpuri, officials celebrated Independence Day with orphan children. A special cake-cutting ceremony was organized to ensure that the children could also share in the joy of the national occasion.
Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Abdullah Shah and DPO Ikramullah also visited District Headquarters Hospital Alpuri, where they cut a cake and distributed it among children receiving treatment. They visited different wards and inquired about the health of patients and the facilities being provided to them.
A special ceremony was held at Shangla Police Lines to pay homage to Pakistan’s martyrs and personnel who sacrificed their lives in the line of duty.
The Deputy Commissioner and DPO visited the Martyrs’ Memorial, laid floral wreaths and offered prayers for the departed souls as well as for peace, security and stability in the country.
Rescue 1122 Shangla also organized Independence Day ceremonies under the leadership of District Emergency Officer Engineer Malik Sher Dil Khan. A smartly turned-out Rescue 1122 contingent presented a salute, while floral tributes were offered at the memorial of martyred rescuer Nizamullah.
The district administration reiterated its resolve to utilize all available resources for public service, ensure the rule of law, maintain peace and order and promote sustainable development in Shangla.
Independence Day celebrations were not limited to Alpuri. Similar ceremonies were held in Porun, Chakesar, Besham, Kana and Martung, with students, teachers, government officials and local residents participating in various activities.
Independence-themed plantation drives were also organized in different parts of the district, while government buildings, schools, hospitals, markets and bazaars were decorated with national flags and Independence Day decorations.
The celebrations reflected the people’s continued attachment to Pakistan and their resolve to contribute towards peace, development, prosperity and national unity.
