PTI Founder Convicted, Not Political Prisoner: Ahsan Iqbal

ISLAMABAD,11 August, 2026(Nosheen): Federal Minister for Planning and Development Ahsan Iqbal has said there is no need to be concerned about the health of PTI founder Imran Khan, as he is being provided the best available medical treatment and facilities in prison.Speaking on Dunya News programme “Dunya Mehr Bukhari Ke Saath,” Ahsan Iqbal said the government would not compromise on the health and well-being of the PTI founder. He said Imran Khan is not a political prisoner but a convicted prisoner and is being provided all necessary medical facilities, including access to qualified doctors. The federal minister said there had been no negligence regarding Imran Khan’s health and that he was being kept in the same cell where he had been imprisoned while receiving the required medical care. He reiterated that the government would take all necessary measures concerning his health.

Ahsan Iqbal also expressed concern over what he described as renewed calls for agitation politics, saying Pakistan currently needs economic stability rather than protests. He said any attempt to launch agitation at this stage would amount to supporting what he called the enemy’s destructive agenda. He said Pakistan should focus on strengthening the economy instead of turning the country into a D-Chowk. “Pakistan needs an economic long march at this time,” he said. The federal minister further stated that the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) is an ally of the government and would continue to support it. He said the PPP is with the government and there is no question of it leaving the coalition.
