Chairman Senate Invites Greater Chinese Investment, Reaffirms Pakistan’s Commitment to Expanding Strategic Economic Cooperation

Islamabad, July 2026(Kamran Raja): Chairman Senate Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani has reaffirmed Pakistan’s unwavering commitment to further strengthening its all-weather strategic partnership with China, emphasizing that enhanced economic cooperation and increased Chinese investment will play a pivotal role in Pakistan’s sustainable development and regional connectivity.

The Chairman Senate expressed these views during a meeting at Parliament House with a high-level delegation comprising representatives of the Tabani Group and Shandong Hi-Speed Group Co., Ltd. (SDHS), one of the People’s Republic of China’s largest state-owned infrastructure and investment enterprises.

The SDHS delegation was led by its Chairman, Mr. Xu Xiang, and included Mr. Wang Zhenrong, Country Director, along with Mr. Humza Tabani, Chairman of the Tabani Group.

The meeting focused on expanding Pakistan-China economic cooperation and exploring new investment opportunities in infrastructure, transportation, energy, logistics, industrial development and other strategic sectors.

Welcoming the delegation, Chairman Senate Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani said Pakistan and China share an enduring and time-tested friendship founded on mutual trust, respect and unwavering support. He noted that China has consistently stood by Pakistan during difficult times, and the people of Pakistan deeply value this historic and steadfast partnership.

The Chairman appreciated the significant contribution of Chinese companies and investors to Pakistan’s economic development, stating that their investments are generating employment, promoting industrial growth and contributing to the prosperity of both nations.

Highlighting the transformative impact of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), he described it as a landmark initiative that reflects the strength of the Pakistan-China strategic partnership. He noted that CPEC has laid a solid foundation for regional connectivity, economic integration and long-term sustainable development.

Expressing confidence in the future of bilateral relations, Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani said trade, investment and economic cooperation between Pakistan and China would continue to expand, creating new opportunities for shared growth and prosperity. He reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to providing a transparent, stable and investor-friendly environment and welcomed the growing interest of Chinese enterprises in investing across diverse sectors of the national economy.

The Chairman Senate also highlighted the importance of the Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC) as a key national initiative aimed at facilitating investment, strengthening economic stability and creating employment opportunities. He reaffirmed the Senate’s commitment to supporting legislation and policies that promote transparency, investor confidence, sustainable economic growth and national prosperity.

During the meeting, the delegation briefed the Chairman Senate on the global operations of Shandong Hi-Speed Group, highlighting its extensive expertise in transport infrastructure, high-speed rail, expressways, energy, logistics and industrial development. The delegation also shared the Group’s vision for expanding its investment portfolio in Pakistan and reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the country’s economic progress through long-term strategic partnerships.

The meeting concluded with both sides reaffirming their resolve to further deepen Pakistan-China cooperation and promote mutually beneficial investment initiatives that will enhance regional connectivity, accelerate economic growth and strengthen the longstanding friendship between the two countries.
