ISLAMABAD, 24 July 2026(Kamran Raja): Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to strengthening regional cooperation and peace while participating in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Council of Foreign Ministers’ Meeting held in Cholpon-Ata, Kyrgyz Republic.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Senator Dar thanked the Government of Kyrgyzstan and Foreign Minister Zheenbek Kulubaev for the warm hospitality and excellent arrangements for hosting the ministerial meeting.
Marking the SCO’s 25th anniversary, the Deputy Prime Minister congratulated member states on the milestone and highlighted the Organization’s significant role in promoting regional peace, security, economic prosperity, and sustainable development. He reiterated Pakistan’s unwavering commitment to the “Shanghai Spirit” and emphasized the importance of enhancing cooperation, regional connectivity, and shared economic growth among SCO member countries.
During his address, Senator Dar also underscored Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts to promote regional peace, referring to the Islamabad Talks and the subsequent Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) as key initiatives demonstrating Pakistan’s commitment to dialogue and peaceful conflict resolution. He expressed appreciation to his counterparts for acknowledging Pakistan’s sincere efforts to foster peace and stability in the region and beyond.
Looking ahead, the Foreign Minister conveyed Pakistan’s readiness to assume the Chairmanship of the SCO Council of Heads of State (CHS) in September 2026. He also extended a formal invitation to all SCO member states to attend the SCO Council of Heads of State Summit, which Pakistan is set to host in 2027.
Pakistan’s participation in the meeting reaffirmed its commitment to playing an active and constructive role within the SCO while advancing regional cooperation, multilateral engagement, and sustainable development.
