Pakistan, China Discuss Expanding Cooperation in Electric Vehicles, Advanced Industry and Regional Connectivity

Islamabad, May 13, 2026(Kamran Raja): Federal Minister for Commerce Jam Kamal Khan held an important meeting with Chinese Minister Counsellor Yang Guangyuan in Islamabad to discuss expanding bilateral cooperation in trade, industry, investment, and emerging technologies. During the meeting, both sides exchanged views on enhancing collaboration in electric vehicles (EVs), battery manufacturing, and advanced industrial technologies. The discussions focused on introducing modern electric mobility solutions to Pakistan’s automotive sector and creating new industrial opportunities through technological innovation. The two sides also discussed increasing the export potential of value-added date products and explored opportunities in agri-processing and food exports. Minister Jam Kamal Khan highlighted the significant economic potential of Balochistan’s production of olives, pistachios, almonds, dates, and pine nuts, describing these sectors as promising avenues for investment and export growth.

The meeting further reviewed prospects for cooperation in rural development, women’s skills enhancement, and solar energy projects. Both sides emphasized the importance of strengthening regional logistics and connectivity, particularly through the development of Gwadar as a regional trade and logistics hub. Minister Jam Kamal Khan described Pakistan as a natural trade gateway connecting China, Central Asia, and the Middle East, noting that evolving global supply chain dynamics are creating new economic opportunities for Pakistan. The Commerce Minister stated that electric vehicle technology could help generate new industrial capabilities in Pakistan and stressed the need for technology transfer and joint industrial ventures with Chinese companies. Both sides also agreed to enhance cooperation in agricultural modernization and climate-resilient farming practices. Minister Jam Kamal Khan underlined the importance of water-efficient agriculture and policies aligned with climate adaptation goals.

Pakistan and China reaffirmed their commitment to expanding cooperation in clean energy, manufacturing, regional connectivity, and investment, while further strengthening the Pakistan-China All-Weather Strategic Cooperative Partnership.
