Islamabad, 29 April 2026(Kamran Raja): Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) has initiated a comprehensive and free cardiac screening program for its employees following rising health concerns, particularly after the recent sudden deaths of several staff members due to heart-related illnesses.

The initiative has been launched under the directives of Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Nasir Mahmood, who took immediate notice of the alarming situation and approved the program to safeguard the well-being of university staff. The screenings are being conducted at the university’s Healthcare Center, aiming to ensure early diagnosis and prevention of cardiac diseases.

Addressing the inauguration ceremony, the Vice Chancellor highlighted the importance of timely diagnosis in preventing life-threatening conditions. He reaffirmed the university administration’s commitment to prioritizing employee health, stating that no negligence would be tolerated in this regard.

He further directed the relevant authorities to expand the initiative to regional campuses on an emergency basis, ensuring that employees in remote areas also benefit from the facility. Additionally, he instructed that employees identified with potential cardiac issues be referred immediately to cardiology specialists, with the university covering the full cost of treatment.

Under the program, approximately 800 employees will undergo initial medical tests in phases. To ensure smooth implementation, 20 batches have been formed. The medical reports will be reviewed by Dr. Shaheera Kabsha, who will provide further guidance based on individual health conditions.
