The Higher Education Commission (HEC) of Pakistan has developed a course on Pakistan Studies, with an emphasis on integrating it into the educational component of Higher Education Policy V. 1.1.
In this regard, the HEC Course Design Committee held an important meeting at the HEC Regional Center in Karachi to develop a two-credit course titled “Pakistan Studies” for the university program.
Deputy Director of HEC, Mr.Muhammad Ali Baig begins the session by explaining the logic and parameters that guide the consultation process. He emphasized the need for a meticulously crafted course in Pakistan Studies that would provide students with a comprehensive exploration of Pakistan’s identity, including geographical, historical and cultural aspects.
The Committee comprises eminent experts in the field, including Chairman, Department of Pakistan Studies, Government College University, Faisalabad, Professor Abdul Qadir Mushtaq; Dean of the Department of Pakistan Studies, Bahauddin Zakariya University, Multan, Professor.Dr. Javed Akhtar Salyana; Chairman, Department of History and Pakistan Studies, Punjab University, Lahore, Dr. Mahboob Hussain;, Director, Center for Pakistan Studies, University of Balochistan, Quetta, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Usman; Director of the Center for Pakistan Studies, Punjab University, Lahore, Professor.Dr. Naumana Kiran; Director, Center for Pakistan Studies, University of Sindh, Jamshore, Dr. Shuja Ahmed Mahesar; Director of Pakistan National Research Institute, Quaid-i-Azam University, Islamabad, Associate Professor Dr. Muhammad Hanif Khan; Dean, Department of Pakistan Studies, Islamia University Bahawalpur, Associate Professor Dr. Robina Yasmin; and Director, Center for Pakistan Studies, University of Karachi, Assistant Professor Ph.D.Erum Muzaffar.
The Committee designed the course and emphasized the importance of integrating it into the general education component of Higher Education Policy V 1.1. However, he emphasized that the course should not replace the existing course on “Ideology and Constitution of Pakistan” as stated in the same policy.
