US Plans Three-Day Strike Campaign Against Iran, NYT Reports

WASHINGTON, 9 October, 2026 (Nosheen): The US military is planning a three-day campaign of intensive strikes against Iran, although President Donald Trump has yet to make a final decision on launching fresh attacks, The New York Times reported. According to the report, the proposed military operation would target Iran’s stockpiles of missiles and drones, while Iranian energy infrastructure and command centres belonging to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) could also be among the potential targets. The newspaper reported that Trump had rejected five proposals for military strikes against Iran and Yemen’s Houthi movement over the past several months, highlighting continued uncertainty within the US administration over its military approach to the region. The report further stated that Iran had rebuilt and strengthened its missile and drone capabilities since the end of the war, making it increasingly difficult for the United States to protect its military bases across the region against potential Iranian attacks. It also claimed that Iran had targeted 13 ships since September, while Washington had refrained from responding to those incidents. The reported military planning comes amid persistent concerns over regional security, growing military tensions and the risk of further escalation in the Middle East. However, the report said no final decision had been made by Trump regarding the proposed strikes.
