Islamabad, August 12, 2025(Kamran Raja): The United States of America and the Islamic Republic of Pakistan convened the latest round of the U.S.-Pakistan Counterterrorism Dialogue in Islamabad on August 12, 2025, reaffirming their shared commitment to combating terrorism in all its forms and manifestations. The dialogue was co-chaired by Special Secretary for the United Nations Nabeel Munir of Pakistan and Acting Coordinator for Counterterrorism Gregory D. LoGerfo of the U.S. Department of State.
Both delegations underscored the urgency of developing effective strategies to address terrorist threats, including those posed by the Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA), ISIS-Khorasan, and Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP). The United States commended Pakistan’s continued successes in containing terrorist entities that endanger regional and global security. The U.S. delegation expressed its condolences for the loss of civilians and law enforcement personnel in recent terrorist incidents in Pakistan, including the Jaffar Express attack and the Khuzdar school bus bombing, calling these acts barbaric and reprehensible.
Discussions also focused on strengthening institutional frameworks, enhancing capabilities to respond to evolving security challenges, and addressing the use of emerging technologies by terrorist groups. Both sides reaffirmed their intention to work closely in multilateral fora, including the United Nations, to promote effective and lasting counterterrorism efforts. Concluding the dialogue, both nations reiterated their long-standing partnership and emphasized that sustained, structured engagement is essential to countering terrorism and advancing peace and stability in the region and beyond.
