United Nations, 06 August , 2026 (Ghufran): The United Nations Security Council (UNSC) has strongly condemned the deadly suicide terrorist attack outside a police station in Kabal, Swat District, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan, describing it as a “heinous and cowardly” act of terrorism. In a press statement issued by the Security Council, its members expressed deep sorrow over the attack that took place on 2 August 2026, claiming the lives of at least 16 Pakistani nationals, the majority of whom were civilians, while leaving dozens of others injured. The terrorist group Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) claimed responsibility for the attack.
The members of the Security Council extended their heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims and expressed solidarity with the Government and the people of Pakistan. They also wished those injured a speedy and complete recovery. Reaffirming their firm stance against terrorism, the Council stated that terrorism in all its forms and manifestations remains one of the gravest threats to international peace and security. The members stressed the importance of ensuring that the perpetrators, organizers, financiers, and sponsors of terrorist acts are held accountable and brought to justice.
The Security Council urged all Member States to cooperate actively with the Government of Pakistan, in accordance with their obligations under international law and relevant Security Council resolutions, to support efforts aimed at bringing those responsible to justice. The Council further reiterated that acts of terrorism are criminal and unjustifiable regardless of their motivation, wherever and by whomsoever committed. It emphasized the responsibility of all States to combat terrorism by all lawful means in line with the Charter of the United Nations and international legal obligations, including international human rights law, international refugee law, and international humanitarian law. The statement reflects the international community’s continued support for Pakistan’s efforts to combat terrorism and underscores the collective commitment to maintaining international peace and security through enhanced global cooperation against terrorist threats.
