On 06 September, 1965 while attacking Halwara airfield, a large number of enemy aircraft intercepted his small formation. He fought them with exceptional gallantry and shot down two IAF Hunters. Squadron Leader Sarfraz Ahmed Rafiqi, along with his fellow pilots shot down three of the four intruder aircraft of Indian Air Force, flying at an altitude of 20,000 feet on the eve of 01 September, 1965 at Chamb Sector.
