Shanghai Cooperation Organisation Summit Concludes in Tianjin with Landmark Achievements

The Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit concluded in Tianjin today, marking a historic milestone in the Organization’s journey toward greater regional and global influence.

At a joint press conference with SCO Secretary-General Zhang Ming Yermekbayev, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, highlighted eight key outcomes of the summit:

  1. Strategic Roadmap for the Next Decade – Adoption of a development strategy defining the SCO’s vision and direction for the next 10 years.

  2. Defending the Victory of World War II – A strong reaffirmation of the SCO’s commitment to safeguarding historical truth and the outcomes of the victory.

  3. Support for Multilateral Trade – Firm backing for a fair multilateral trading system to promote balanced and equitable global economic growth.

  4. New Security Mechanisms Established – Announcement of the creation of an Integrated Center for Response to Security Challenges, an Information Security Center, a Center for Combating International Organized Crime, and an SCO Anti-Narcotics Center.

  5. SCO Development Bank – A political decision to establish the SCO Development Bank, aimed at deepening financial cooperation across the region.

  6. Six Cooperation Platforms Launched – Chinese President Xi Jinping announced the establishment of three cooperation platforms in energy, green industry, and the digital economy, as well as three centers for scientific and technological innovation, higher education, and vocational training.

  7. High-Quality Development Initiatives – Issuance of five statements promoting sustainable energy, green industry, the digital economy, artificial intelligence, and scientific innovation, alongside an action plan for high-quality SCO-China economic and trade cooperation.

  8. Reforms and Expansion of SCO – Introduction of reforms renaming observer states and dialogue partners as “SCO Partners.” Laos was welcomed as a new partner, bringing the SCO’s membership to 27.

The Tianjin Summit has reinforced the SCO’s role as a cornerstone of regional peace, security, and economic integration, while advancing multilateral cooperation to address shared global challenges.
